Rough estimates or rough cost estimates refer to general terms used to describe a method of roughly calculating construction costs.
There are a number of “rough estimates,” including methods that anyone can use once they learn them, such as the unit price per square meter method and the basis unit metod, methods that require extensive experience and judgment, such as the rough quantity method, and methods that utilize rough estimation systems.
One feature of rough estimates is that it can calculate the construction cost according to the amount of information even when there is no detailed design information in the project. For this reason, it is used in actual projects at the stage before the details of the design are finalized, such as conceptualization, planning, and basic design. On the other hand, since the amount of information used for rough estimation is often limited, the accuracy of the calculated construction cost is also limited.
Although the accuracy of rough estimation is limited compared to that of cost estimation, it is used in many project situations because it requires less time and effort to calculate.
